#241 - Acrylic on Canvas Board
Painting: 8” x 8”
In Frame: 13 1/8" x 13 1/8"
The Desert Foothills Land Trust exists to preserve and protect land it owns and/or manages, and one of their surprisingly beautiful holdings is the 26 acre Jewel of the Creek Preserve in Cave Creek, Arizona. As if Jewel of the Creek Preserve is not an inviting enough name, when you arrive you can walk Dragonfly Trail down into the Cave Creek bed with it’s riparian welcome, sights and smells, magnificent cottonwood and willow trees, more so since huge trees are so rare in the Sonoran desert and year round water, even if precious little, and dragonflies, among the unexpected wildlife. Towering saguaros on the ridges above the rich yellow, ochre and orange cottonwood leaves, fluffy but vicious teddy bear cholla looking so softly off-white, the blue green of native brittlebush & cactus, gray and red rocks, golden grasses, how can an artist not want to return to this gorgeous palette? The Dragonfly Trail has worthy vistas all along it, it’s a unicorn of a trail, a place I’d have spent a lot of time in those elementary school outdoor days had I lived near, and I so look forward to painting there again. And again. There is so much to see in every square foot of snapshot, and in all the delicious citrusy colors in this little painting too. 8” x 8”
