Big Sur near McWay Falls, California, Pacific Coast Highway

from $3.50

On an early fall drive up the Pacific Coast Highway, parked at this stunning view of the mighty Pacific on a mild cool fall day, I painted this wondrous seascape, just trying to find the many blues of the ocean in the sunlight, and the shadows on the rocks protruding here and there against the waves, finding the remote ribbon of the horizon sky just so, even appreciating the lower frame of purple asphalt in front of the view.  Not a classic composition necessarily, but the lines are pleasing while being quite what was in my eyes that day.  The repeat horizontal aspects give this small painting a bit of an abstract modern character to it, and I will never argue with the colors of the sea, any sea.  May it bring a smile and some peace to your face too.
