Flat of Pansies
I remember pansies in Boston, pansies in Paris, and pansies every place I've lived to garden whether in the spring or fall. The name "pansy" is derived from the French word pensée, "thought", and was imported into Late Middle English as a name of Viola in the mid-15th century, as the flower was regarded as a symbol of remembrance. It's modern form, which I have to endorse with great pleasure, is a credit to those hybridizers willing to wait the two years it takes to mature to bloom, and I'm the lazy but grateful consumer, by the flat, of course, who delights in the velvety multicolor petals. Painted these before planting them, because they were sooooo delightful in the modest flat on concrete driveway. Ordinary pleasures become extraordinary when we stop, and linger looking. The original of this painting is in a private collection, but you can have fine art prints, including Petite Prints, or a tote or phone case from the Gift Shop page, so please do visit and find your pansies to bring home.
